Grasshopper Cocktail

Do It Know

No matter if you are doing a little holiday entertaining this year or just celebrating with family or close friends, this is a fun cocktail recipe to have on hand.

The first time I tried a grasshopper cocktail was at a Christmas dinner party and I LOVED it. It reminds me of a lightly alcoholic peppermint mocha (without caffeine), plus it’s a very festive color (which makes this drink even more fun).

I’ll share how to make a classic grasshopper cocktail, as well as how to make a frozen version. For this recipe, I am working with Walmart—my go-to store for easy holiday entertaining options, as you can get both groceries and other things you may need like drinkware or decorations.

Not only did I get all the glasses, serving trays, and little candy tree ornaments there, but I also found all the perfect entertaining snacks you see in their bakery section. Walmart makes entertaining easy!

Here are some party snacks that pair well with grasshopper cocktails:

  • sweet or savory trail mix
  • cookies
  • peppermint bark
  • nuts
  • pretzels
  • chocolate candies

There are only three ingredients in a classic grasshopper cocktail: Creme de menthe, Creme de cacao, and heavy whipping cream.

And, the ratio I like to use is 1 : 1 : 1, meaning I use one ounce of each ingredient to make one cocktail. I’ll include more information and some substation notes in the recipe card below.

A frozen grasshopper cocktail is quite possibly the most delicious boozy milkshake option ever. To make this, you simply swap the 1 ounce of heavy whipping cream for 1 cup of vanilla ice cream.

As you can tell from the ingredients, this is a very decadent and flavorful drink. Perfect for a holiday celebration!

I like to garnish these with a few chocolate shavings and fresh mint. Another option is a add a mini candy cane to the side of the glass, or melted chocolate to the rim. Cheers! xo. Emma

Equipment

  • cocktail shaker

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce Creme de menthe
  • 1 ounce Creme de cacao
  • 1 ounce heavy whipping cream

Instructions

  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Add all three ingredients.
  • Shake until the shaker feels very cold in your hand.
  • Strain into a chilled coupe glass.
  • Garnish with chocolate shavings and/or fresh mint.

Notes

You can substitute the heavy whipping cream or half and half or a non-dairy creamer if needed. This will result in a slightly less frothy cocktail, but it will still be delicious.
To make a frozen grasshopper cocktail, substitute the heavy cream for 1 cup vanilla ice cream and blend in a blender instead of a cocktail shaker.
