This is an easy homemade recipe for apple pie spice. While you certainly could simply use cinnamon for apple pie, this spice mixture is sure to elevate your baking. You can certainly buy apple pie spice at the store, but (much like pumpkin pie spice) I love making my own as you can adjust or customize the mixture to fit your preferences. Plus, it makes your kitchen smell amazing.
Apple pie spice is obviously perfect for making apple pie or sprucing up an apple pie filling. But I also love it cakes, cookies, muffins or seasonal breads; it’s also delicious sprinkled over sliced apples for a snack. Homemade apple pie spice also makes a great gift!

How to make Apple Pie Spice
Tell how to make the recipe. Measure out all ingredients into a small bowl. Stir to combine.
Use parchment paper or a plain (clean) piece of paper to create a funnel to spoon the spice mix into your container. If you own a small funnel, that will work too. Label the container.

Notes
- If you like your apple pie spice mix a little more spicy you can increase the all spice ratio or add a little bit of black pepper.
- Grate your own nutmeg or buy some already grated, either works great in this mix.
- If you’ve owned your spices for a while, check them for freshness before you use them in this recipe. If the container doesn’t have an expiration date listed, give them a smell to see if they are fragrant in the way they should be. If they smell off, toss them and buy new spices before using in this spice mix.
- This mixture will be good for at least 6 months and likely up to a year if you are using fresh base spices to begin with.
